Exhibition Stand for AVASAN

Frankfurt Fashion Week

The new collection of the brand AVASAN from 2022, with the title “The Water Harmony,” inspired this innovative design.

The Frankfurt Fashion Week focuses on subjects such as sustainability, design and technology.

The brand that I chose to design the stand for is called “AVASAN“ and was created by Amy Valentine in the summer of 2017. The brand produces luxurious kimonos, which are made of the remains of designer clothes, exclusive emroideries and hand-drawn fabrics.

The collection, that my design is based on, is called “The Water Harmony“ and describes the dynamic movement of the element water. The pattern and colours on the kimonos are hand-drawn by the artist Araceli Garcia.

The very interesting and unique shape of the floor plan is inspired by the composition of two pictures. The picture of a moving water surface and a water colour drawing by the artist Araceli Garcia. By combining the two images, I created a new image of layered organic shapes, floating on top of each other. The resulting bodies divide the floor plan in four areas, with each area having different floor levels to distinguish them even further from another. The colouring of the different areas is executed by the use of different coloured linoleum flooring.

Floor Plan Exhibition Hall

The stand has a central position in the exhibition hall. My design follows the main pathways and makes it accessible from all four sides, always relating to the direct paths crossing the stands location.

One specific challenge was the pillar, which is located in the center of the stand space. With many trial and errors I ended up with this composition of the shapes which I created out of the “surface of water” and the “colors of the artist.”

Floor Plan Exhibition Stand

The “wall pieces” of the stand are not solid walls, but are made out of metal wires that give the effect of a seperation, as well as making the design seem more transparent and open. The wires are attached to the ceiling panels and the different floor elements, as depicted in these two drawings. The ceiling panels appear like they are “floating” above and add to the layering of the complexity of the surface of the element water.
